October 2009

The phone rang first thing on the morning of my birthday.

Oh good, I thought, a loved one is going to sing happy birthday. However, at the other end of the receiver was a mechanized voice saying "Don't be alarmed" (and then something about how there was  still time to reduce my insurance premiums). Hmmmm. This was an interesting message to arrive for the year ahead. So I wrote it on my blackboard.

I turned on the computer later that day (after hearing some lovely real voices sing their birthday greetings), and noticed a receipt from iTunes for an old Coldplay song I had recently purchased called "Don't Panic!" Hmmmm. Loving to follow a thread, I decided to listen to the song again for further illumination. The lyrical message of that song is that although we can feel like we're sinking like a stone, ‘We live in a beautiful world’.  A reminder perhaps that the upheaval in the world outside, does not deter from the fact that we live in a wonderful world, and to hold that in our hearts.

The next stop was to check out my horoscope for the coming year, to see if these sentiments repeated themselves in the story of the heavens. Two major influences in the year ahead did bounce out and concur with the song lyrics.

One major influence would be a feeling of restlessness and uncertainty, but best not to rush or be in a hurry, because there is actually enough time to make a good decision. A second major influence suggested that, although it is not necessarily a happy or peaceful time ahead, by remaining true to my center, the experience can encourage a state of balance and equilibrium. Hmmmm. As I read it I  had a feeling this was not happening just to me, but was part of a larger picture. Certainly, astrologers are aware of the tremendous change and uncertainty being stirred up by Saturn (in Virgo) and Uranus (in Pisces) being in opposition, five times between fall 2008 and summer 2010. This is a cycle that happens every 40 years or so, and usually brings social change. The last opposition was in the middle of the 1960's. Saturn is all about limitation, focus and work. Uranus is all about freedom and breaking away from old, expected limitation. Socially, it means things that are bugging us under the surface, make themselves known, and change has to happen. Probably, for our neighbours to the south the war will take a dramatic shift, and the inequality of health care will be addressed.

Globally, our demand for truth and accountability in our actions toward world resources, will gain momentum. Any chance of avoiding addressing these things, just under the surface, will probably be thwarted as the Moon moves into Scorpio and squares Jupiter Chiron and Neptune. At that point it looks like we will, collectively, have to acknowledge the 'heaviness' of our deplorable treatment of the earth, and each other, and  feelings will definitely be stirred up. Hmmmm, it is sounding like there is a lot of 'shift' happening just up ahead. 'Don't be alarmed', may yet prove to be a suitable mantra in the months ahead. Although, I think for those of us who have been alarmed for quite some time by the path we have been taking, it's more a case of staying in our hearts and our truth, in order to direct the energy of change in a good and sacred way.

The image that often comes to mind, is the world shifting from  being run by heirarchies, operating often in secrecy, to a network of circles lit with integrity. There is nothing to fear in that image. However, it could play itself out in a way that is alarming for some people, at least for a period of time. Perhaps the solution to fearing the unknown is to make it known. If we know in our hearts that we are the change we seek, and that we are beings of light, then we need to hold an image of that change and keep it lit.

For example, today I sent an  e mail to an important buyer of a big grocery chain, and under my name it said; "Green economics is a heart path, where we can honour all our relations. All Blessings,  All Love,  All of Us". You can't imagine how warm and receptive they were to me. I would never have done that ten years ago.

Life is going by too quickly not to stand in our truth, and the more we do, the more light we exude, the less fear or concern we will have about how things will unfold, because light is drawn to light. Ahhhh.
