February 2009

This year feels different to me.

Traditionally this is a time to dream our future, to explore where we are wanting to go, and what aspects of our lives we wish to bring along with us. Those of us who love to explore life in greater depth, look carefully at what  seeds have been growing in the garden of our life experiences and use the time now to explore which are bearing fruit and just as importantly which seed we do not wish to further cultivate.

This year we are collectively going through this process. Not only is it a worldwide reassessment, we are doing it consciously, and out loud. We are beginning to dream together.

Obama represents the collective acknowledgement that we need to redesign the world, envision it anew. He is inheriting a broken system that needs to be rebuilt, in a new and different way. He is not the classic authoritarian who claims to know the answers; in fact he knows the answer lies in believing, in each of us, to do it with him. He sits in circle with women. He does not seek the profit of war. He is asking for everyone to be part of co-creating the dream of the future.

Just to recap astrologically for a moment, now that Pluto has moved into Capricorn for the next few decades, we are witnessing the breaking down of the system where the elite control the wealth and power. The new energy which is here, is aiding in the co-creation of new structures that serve all life on the earth.

I feel as though I have been looking forward to this time of change for decades. For people who haven’t seen this coming this must feel and seem terrible. Those are the people looking stunned staring at the flames of the old world. Part of our job is to grab hold of them, be reassuring, and ask them what kind of world they would like to live in. Get them dreaming too. The event horizon up ahead is like an empty canvas waiting to be coloured with clear intentions. It’s not about fragile hopes or wishing on a star sort of dreaming, this is good quantum physics, this is about thought creating form, and when our hearts and minds are united we can literally dream a new world together.

What is happening in the Middle East is a metaphor of the change that is needed in the world. It seems so desperately bleak in Gaza right now, where for generations many have been raised in poverty, fear and distrust. They have no dream of a green Gaza, of a thriving abundant culture and economy with their neighbours. All of which is possible, but the collective intention of everyone must shift from fear into love. They are beautiful creative intelligent passionate people, wherever they find themselves, and to live that dream they must choose it again.

My connection to it is the pain I hear in my sister’s voice, who lives in the area. When I got off the phone from speaking to my sister I sat in silence for over an hour. In my mind I went to Zimbabwe to confront Mugabe, to Darfur to feel the thirst and hunger, to the suppression of Tibet. I felt the rage of injustice and tried to find a different way of responding to violence with more violence. Slowly my eyes closed and I found myself inside a vivid colour dream. I was at a ceremony. There were hundreds of women in two giant circles moving in opposite directions and facing each other. They were Palestinean and Israeli women. Some had dark blue markings on their face and walked barefoot, on a violet floor. As they walked hand in hand they greeted each new face in the circle of women across from them, with a smile. There were tears in many faces as I walked with them; each of them was respectful, aware, grateful, and radiant.

I went to yoga that night and we un-customarily had a check in, and I shared my story. A new older man in the class introduced himself and said he was an artist and Israeli, and his dearest collaborator is another artist in town, from Gaza. Wow, a vision of peace right here in my teeny tiny town.

I spend a little time each day now visualizing a peaceful future for a Gaza filled with green fields and laughing children, borders without guards, and lots of violet light floating down their streets.
