Spring is arriving this month and it feels like a whirlwind of time as we move swiftly through the winter’s darkness. It is understandable that the summer days seem to go by too quickly, but less common to feel that even the winter months are going by too fast.

All of us would agree that life is zipping by much faster than it was 10 years ago, and 10 years ago we could have made the same observation. My question is, what is causing it and what would be an interesting way of working with and understanding this “quickening?”

One possible explanation that keeps popping up in conversations and written words lately is a recent scientific phenomenon identifying changes in the Earth’s resonance. This Schumann Resonance is a measurement of the “charge” that exists within the cavity of the Earth; the space between the surface and the inner edge of the ionosphere 55 kilometres up. It is a lively electrical place, where at any given moment there might be 1,000 lightning storms within this cavity. There are a number of frequencies and charges that are measurable within this area. The Schumann Resonance is based on the electromagnetic waves that, although they vary throughout a day because of activities like storms, they tend to have a constant charge of 7.8 Hz.

Military submarine communications were based on this constant, but now have had to be shifted to a new constant of 11 Hz or even 12 Hz, as it has been rising since 1980. In other words, the electrical heartbeat of the Earth is increasing.

There are a number of different explanations, most of which relate this frequency shift to the solar sun spot cycle that is quite active right now. Some scientists see it as a factor in the unusual global weather patterns. Gregg Braden has been talking with various scientists around the world (Awakening to Zero Point: 1997) and in the wilder mathematical implications, what once took 24 hours now takes 16. That sure sounds like an apt description of how we are experiencing the speeding up of life recently.

Well, if the hypothesis is true that the Earth is being affected by Sun cycles, then this may be a phenomenon that is both natural and part of the predicted changes to the Earth at this time. To me this suggests an increase of “wave” information within a day, and therefore an opportunity for each of us to prepare to increase our intake of “energetic” information. The Earth is doing it, so we can learn to do it too.

I have noticed that the more “information” is around me, the more I shift out of the stream and pull into my core. Rather than sending my energy out to explore and ask questions, I instead allow everything presenting itself around me to pour through me. This allows me to save energy as unrelated energies wash by. The result is that quite often I tend to “know” the answer instead of seeking it out.

Perhaps we will become more intuitive, clairvoyant, and clairaudient over the next few years as we find ways to move into deeper waters, where more waves of information flow through us, and we learn to be sophisticated in how we move through this information.
It reminds me of a visualization shared in this column a few years back that involved imagining yourself standing in the middle of a deep stream, water over your head. The visualization allowed the energy of the stream to move through you, cleansing you as well as feeding you brilliant answers to your questions. Likewise, we can imagine what it is like hanging out in this cavity where the current, which in this case is electrical, is opening us up to change.

Well, my first prediction is that it will be spring any second, and before then we should find the time or “cavity” to contemplate the seeds we want to grow for our coming year; spiritually and emotionally as well as physically.

March 20 heralds a time of balance, when the light and dark are of equal lengths, masculine and feminine, intention and intuition, all in harmony. So working with this, the Earth’s spring metaphor, we might imagine ourselves floating in this cavity of electrical activity. Feel the powerful charge of living on a giant electrical circuit. Feel yourself filling with love and gratitude. Drink in the energetic inspiration around you to initiate whatever most wants to grow in you this year. Let what is not relevant wash past you on its own journey elsewhere. As you float in the Earth’s frequency feel how capable you are of taking on more energy, effortlessly, the more you stand in your own peace; balanced, mutable, available, yet fully charged.
