June 2004

June 2004

I learned a new word recently, “Communitarian.” Just as a humanitarian respects each human life, a communitarian believes that life’s rewards come from being in community with humans and plants, wolves, mosquitoes the wind, and dirt equally.

June is certainly a time to celebrate the community returning and re-united after the sleep of winter. These are rich times indeed and there are two events this June that invite us to come together as community, and in so doing bring peace to the world.

The first and most familiar is Summer Solstice, marking the longest day of light in the northern hemisphere. This year native elders, such as Chief Arvol Looking Horse of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nations (19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe) is asking that as a global community, we focus our attentions this Solstice, June 21, on world peace and prayer. The prophesies of his people see these times as a crossroad and we each have a choice to either unite spiritually or divide materially. The tribal people are the voice of the earth and the keepers of the sacred sites, but these places need our prayers and protection.

For example 50% of the rainforest has been approved for depletion by the Brazilian government, and the coral reefs of Australia are dying (which the aborigines warn is the blood purifier of the earth). Likewise Big Mountain. called the ‘liver’‚ by the Diné peoples, is being drilled, and the ‘place where all life began’‚ in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is once again being drilled for oil (one of the first things Bush did when he came into office).

“Mother Earth is not a resource, she is the Source of Life itself”. By coming together at sacred sites or focusing on them at Solstice we can pray and meditate in community, shifting the healing energy to the Earth and achieve a higher consciousness to bring peace. The elders emphasize that each of us is here to make that conscious choice at this time.

A second event this month is the Transit of Venus across the Sun on June 8. This transit happens every 121.6 years and then again eight years later. In June 2012 this transit will end the Mayan Calendar, a complex and highly accurate calendar that is also a form of numbering, astronomy and prophesy. It began 16.4 billion years ago and is based on nine epochs which are in turn divided into 13 phases (like the Sumerian, Mesopotamian and ancient Vedic texts (the foundation of Buddhism, Taoism, Sufism and Hinduism).

It predicted two thousand years before, the arrival of the priests that burned their sacred texts, and describes a dark period of 500 years which follows, which later combines with facing Truth in 2002-2003, and then the ending of the written calendar in 2012, and the potential for birthing a new consciousness (that is where you and I come in). This elaborate system ends in June of 2012 with the second transit of Venus across the Sun. We are in the midst of an enormous epic tale and we can play the heroes who dream the new reality into being.

Venus will take six hours to cross over the sun, allowing the Sun’s force to illumine and shine the energy of Venus onto the Earth. This is a big celestial event. When Venus passes in front of the Sun, the Vital life force (symbolized by the Sun) passes through the Divine Feminine(Venus). It is a sacred marriage (Heirogamos) of highest Intention (Sun) aligned with the Path of Beauty, Equality, and what we truly value (Venus).

My friend Jean (mythic astrologer) suggests. “If you want to know your purpose (i.e. Heroic/Sheroic path) then define and align with what you truly value, this will cut a path as true as the flight of the Eagle. The transit of Venus across the Sun is an opening to see into the Soul of the Goddess.”

The suggestion for June 8 observances around the world is to pray for Oneness and Love in a simultaneous prayer for 15 minutes. The time to join the prayer here in southern Ontario is 6 am. There is a Venus transit festival in Hamilton starting in the evening of June 7 (veggie dinner, drumming, dance, crystal singing bowls, and guided meditation. Contact: (david_hickey@canada.com). This is the dawning of the Age of Enlightenment, my fellow communitarians‚ so let’s celebrate and make sure it happens by consciously assisting in dreaming the a new reality into being. As Chief Arvol Looking Horse puts it, “You yourself are desperately needed to save the soul of this world. Did you think you were put here for something less?” www.mayanmajix.com.
